Guardian Life To Award J$600,000 In Scholarships To Gsat Top Performers

Twenty six top performers in the GSAT examinations will today, Wednesday August 14, receive scholarships to offset school expenses from Guardian Life Limited (GLL).

The insurance company will present the awards at a special awards luncheon slated for 12:00 p.m. today at its Trafalgar Road location.  Minister of Education, the Hon. Ronald Thwaites, M.P, will be the guest speaker.

With noted contributions to education, GLL will give back in a big way to its policy holders and staff through presentations of scholarships to their children or legal wards who topped this year’s GSAT examinations.

Selected by the Ministry of Education, the top male and female GSAT students who are children or legal wards of GLL clients will each receive J$50,000. The company will also award 20 children or legal wards of employees who excelled in the examinations, who will each receive a one off educational grant valued at J$20,000.

In addition to awarding GSAT Scholarships, for several years the top performing students from the Denham Town and Alpha Primary Schools receive bursaries. This year, four students will each receive J$25,000.

Guardian Life CEO, Eric Hosin, shared that the company was delighted to extend this assistance to clients.

“Our clients mean a lot to us and this is one meaningful way in which we show our appreciation for their loyal and valued support. It is important for us as a company to give back to the community in general and policy holders in particular.”

Hosin added that “We are a proud partner in the development of the country’s educational system and are committed to giving back in this area. Our students are among the best and brightest in the region and the world so we are pleased for this opportunity to directly aid in giving them access to a better future through education.”

All recipients are eligible for continued assistance for five years should they maintain the expected academic and co-curricular criteria. This is the eighth year of the scholarship awards.
